I usually begin my work by doing research on the client, marketplace and competition. Then I’ll do a site plan and possibly a couple of linears. Once I have a concept of what I want to do I move on to filling in the colours and details in Photoshop.
In the past couple of years I have been learning how to take my photoshop comps. into HTML and CSS. This has allowed me to take my work from idea straight through to the web.
Of course every project is different and depending on the client and business my process has always remained flexible. I believe that flexbility is one of my strengths and one of the keystones to design, after all design is “form fits function”. Not to be confused with decoration in which trendy cookie cutter solutions are applied to give the project a trendy look without consideration of the message.
Today the market place is full of custom made solutions. I spent the better part of my career down-playing out-of-the-box solutions. I am now seeing the great opportunities of working within the open source market.
